For the Cherokee Nation Roads and Bridges Department, CGA was awarded the design contract for design improvements for the intersection of US Highway 62 and Coffee Hollow Road/Cherokee Street. The project includes the design of a Deceleration/Acceleration lane. A 12 ft lane with 8 ft shoulder right turn auxiliary land for a 45 mph corridor was designed. A typical section of 2% cross slope and a pavement thickness of 9 inches of PCC over a 4 inch open graded bituminous base was used throughout the corridor. Also included, as part of the improvement, was the rehabilitation of Cherokee St, main entrance to Sequoyah High School which included widening of the school access, with a combined open and closed cross section. This project also included the installation of new Signalization eight (8) phasing cycle with loop detection system. Existing markings and traffic signs were replaced with new MUTCD standard traffic control marking and signage. Also part of the improvements included milling and overlaying of Coffee Hollow Road and new striping of the US 62 intersections. Project construction cost in the amount of $670,136.00. Project was completed December 2014.
