CGA Engineers was awarded the design contract for improvements on Maintenance Zone 7045/9045 for the City Public Works Department. The non-arterial street rehabilitation was included part of the 2006 Sales Tax Program with a budget of $740,755.00 with approximately 2,550 feet of roadway improvements. The area is located within a residential development. Topographic survey, field investigation, and soil bore samples for subsurface conditions were conducted to evaluate existing conditions of the streets scheduled for rehabilitation. The existing pavement is composed of three types of paving materials. Approximately 800 feet of existing pavement is asphalt cement. 300 feet of an an asphalt concrete layer over a Portland concrete pavement. The rest of the pavement is composed of concrete Portland cement. After the field investigation a recommendation was submitted to the client.
Due to budget constraints, the preferred rehabilitation alternative of patch mill and overly was used. In general, the streets were in fair condition. CGA prepared preliminary plans with repair strategies and submitted a preliminary set of plans for review. Due to existing subsurface condition, the PCC section was recommended for reconstruction. Plan and profiles were developed along with the patching and overlaying of the rest of the streets. As part of the rehabilitation strategy, CGA looked at the following:
The preliminary engineer's construction cost estimate with a 10 percent contingency is approximately $740,755.00. CGA completed preliminary plans and submitted to the transportation section of the City Public Works Department for review. |
