CGA Engineers secured the design of the J-turns access on Highway 75 located within the Cherokee Nation Enterprise Casino, located approximately 2.5 miles north of Ramona, Oklahoma on Highway 75. The project is phase II of a multi-phase design project. Phase II consisted of designing the infrastructure for two J-turns-Lane for truck turning access. It also included layout, grading, drainage, paving and surfacing traffic control plans and procurement of ODOT construction permits for drives and work performed in ODOT's right of way. Approximately 1,700 cubic yards of unclassified excavation and 1,400 cubic yards of 10 inch dowel jointed P.C.C. pavement material for the placement of two J-turns and inside/outside additional lanes, new shoulders improving the infrastructure adjacent to the Cherokee Casino. Phase II, of the design project included modifications to Highway 75 which included; widening the existing shoulders and adding a lengthening to the north bound turn lane, widening the median opening and improving a deteriorated existing channel segment to provide channel stability and traffic safety. The modifications had to be approved by the Oklahoma Department of Transportation. The Cherokee Nation Enterprise anticipates that truck drivers will patronize the casino; there, CGA Engineers used AutoTURN software to evaluate the access road and parking lots for sufficient layout space to ensure that truck traffic will not experience problems or be a hindrance to passenger vehicles. In order to accommodate the new pavement infrastructure, existing culverts were evaluated and replaced to allow control of stormwater runoff. Great care was taken to balance the cut and fill material so that the project would not require borrow or leave the site with large amounts of waste. Phase II of the project also included highway lighting and permanent traffic control.
This project gave CGA Engineers the opportunity to showcase the ability to meet the needs of an owner that planned a complex phased project and interact with other regulatory agencies that have an effect upon the completed project. We can assist in transportation, traffic, stormwater project and implement coordination skills for project such as this.
